Serve the Church

Aldersgate Gather Team

Volunteer to Serve the Congregation

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

“We GATHER as God’s People”, and there are many ways to support our Aldersgate Community whenever we gather together.
Looking to get involved? We could use your support! Check out the opportunities listed below, or call the church office at 302-478-2575.

Participate in Worship

Worship Greeters

This important role allows a friendly face to welcome members and visitors into the church as they come to Worship. Greeters arrive 20 minutes before the worship service, will be given a name tag, and present a welcoming and friendly face to all who enter. It is as easy as extending a hand, smiling and offering words of welcome. You can sign up for either the 9:00 a.m. contemporary service or the 11:00 a.m. traditional service, as well as special services throughout the year.

Liturgists

The liturgist participates in either the 9:00 a.m. or the 11:00 a.m. worship service, normally by sharing several elements:

  • welcome the congregation and those online
  • share several announcements
  • lead the “Call to Worship” at the11 a.m. service
  • read the scripture lesson for the day.

Contact the church office to volunteer.

Ushers

The ushers ensure that the candles in the sanctuary are lit before the service and collect the offering during each service.

You can sign up with the head usher for the dates you would like to participate, and then arrive 15 minutes before either the 9:00 or the 11:00 worship service. The Ushers walk down the aisle and pass the offering plate to the congregants. For 9:00, return the plates to the head usher. For 11:00, take the offering plates back up the aisle and place them on the altar, then return to your seat.

Contact Steve Davis, Head Usher or the church office.

Communion Servers

Communion is usually served the first Sunday of each month and during certain special services. Communion servers will assist the Pastor in serving the elements to the congregants during worship. Contact the church office to sign up.

AV Team

The AV Team supports the AV Tech, Ryan McKeever, by helping with:

  • Streaming the services on Youtube and Facebook
  • Advancing the slides
  • Monitoring the sound and microphones
  • Helping with setup of microphones and music stands

This is an important team to keep those online connected to Aldersgate Worship Services and to assure smooth sound and slide display during the services.

To volunteer, contact the main office.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild takes care of preparing the worship space for our services, including:

  • changing the paraments (altar cloth, lectern and pulpit and the Chapel paraments)
  • providing and setting up the communion elements
  • dusting the Altar area
  • decorating for the special services of the church year
  • arranging for Sunday flowers on the altar
  • Provide displays in the Altar Guild cabinet

This group provides both an important service to the church but also a great opportunity for fellowship.
